OUR STORY
It all begins with the passion of music.
My music listening experience was always limited by the sound produced from
Hi-Fi loudspeakers available in the marketplace. I was missing live music
experience with its nature of soundstage, focused imaging, natural sound and
emotion/expression of music. For that reason, I and my business partner started
building speakers for ourselves 25 years ago. Our background in Industrial and
Electrical engineering helped us tremendously in transforming our design to our
current speaker models. During this journey we achieved a breakthrough in our
loudspeaker design. These innovative speakers deliver what we were looking for
in a loudspeaker: wide and deep soundstage, well focused imaging, natural sound
with its nuance and emotion/expression of music. The speakers engage and draw us
much closer to the sensation of live music than what we have been experiencing
in the last 25 years. Listening to music thru these speakers compelled us to
appreciate our music collection and to expand our music variety into different
genres that we had not truly appreciate or been exposed to in the past.
Looking back to the reason we started building speakers, we wanted to share our
loudspeakers to a wider population as a vehicle to enjoy music. Thanks to 20
years of engineering, business and manufacturing experience at large
multinational corporations. In the end we figured out how to engineer and
produce loudspeakers for music lovers around the world at manageable price

ENCLOSURE CONCEPT
Low Energy Storage concept (LCM) is a system that allows a loudspeaker cabinet,
speaker driver and crossover components to release both electrical and
mechanical energy in an instant without storing the energy in the surrounding
material.
ENCLOSURE DESIGN
We design our cabinet using this concept because it is the closest way to
produce a live sound. We implemented this concept in our speaker cabinets by a
proprietary process of molding layers of selected wood to make a monocoque (ala
formula 1 race cars) curve cabinet shell.

As a result, the sound will be produced faithfully to the original signal
without adding cabinet coloration or having the cabinet absorb the sound.
We chose to engineer layers of selected wood for our cabinet because of its
natural acoustic characteristics.
We have taken the enclosure design to the next level by applying a time
alignment method.
The speaker cabinet is tilting/leaning back on an angle with an acoustics plate
attached to the front baffle.
This design form follows function to directly manage vertical and horizontal
sound dispersion and to control and maintain time and phase coherent.
Audience will hear a realistic soundstage with focused sound and musician image.
Lastly, this time aligned cabinet frees up electrical time domain compensation
in the crossover. Because of limited crossover compensation, music becomes more
engaging.
To comply with our speaker drivers’ technical characteristic, Sonner applies
ported cabinet design.

The cabinet utilizes our proprietary design of the port’s outer surface.
It fits perfectly on the outer radius of our curve cabinet shell.
As supposed to mount a port on a wide flat surface panel, Sonner's port geometry
allows air to flow seamlessly from the speaker because there are no secondary
sound wave reflections. This makes a clean sound and unrestricted wide and deep
soundstage.
Because of the small radius at the back of the curved cabinet shell sound waves
actively reflect from the wall behind the speaker.
This will also have the benefit of less cabinet surface area which can create
troubling resonant or standing acoustic waves.
Finally, this will make speaker placement manageable closer to the wall.
To realize such an elegant and complex cabinet design, we utilized 3D CAD
software and fabricate the cabinet enclosure using top line 3 and 5 Axis CNC
manufacturing equipment.
CROSSOVER DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
Crossover is the heart and soul of a loudspeaker, so does the heart and soul of
Sonner.
The philosophy of Sonner's crossover design is to integrate all drivers to work
in coherent manner which will be comparable to the sound that comes from a
single driver speaker.
CROSSOVER TECHNOLOGY
Sonner has developed a proprietary crossover technology that is called Panoramic
Crossover Technology (PCT).
This crossover is designed specifically to control each speaker driver's
frequency response, impedance variation and phase behavior. Low or flat
impedance variation is Sonner's key design element, which makes our speakers
easy to be driven by different type of amplifiers. The crossover's electrical
and acoustic phase is determined using computer modeling in conjunction with the
cabinet time alignment angle structure.
CROSSOVER DETAIL IMPLEMENTATION
To enhance our precision crossover design, Sonner uses the highest quality
crossover components with the tightest tolerance values selected only for our
crossover.
All crossover components are point-to-point connected without using the
interference of a Printed Circuit Board in order to achieve the highest purity
of recorded sound.
Once the final crossover is assembled, every single crossover is measured using
a software. This software allows us to compare the measurement results to the
theoretical crossover design. After passing this quality control review, the
crossover is encapsulated/potted in an Epoxy compound. The purpose of potting
crossover is to reduce microscopic vibration from crossover components and
downstream speaker drivers.
Because your recording has Soul, Soundstage and Imaging, we select crossover
components by specific type and material and use extensive qualitative listening
sessions to achieve the final voicing and final design of Sonner's loudspeakers.

drivers’ technologies and cone materials to achieve Sonner’s mission which is to
produce Soul of Music, Soundstage and Imaging.
RING RADIATOR TWEETER

The ring radiator tweeter produces sound by vibrating two ring shaped diaphragm.
This small size of ring rolls moves the potential resonances to much higher
frequency.
A phase plug is mounted at the center of the diaphragm with the objective to
increase high frequencies extension. All of the above technologies contribute to
a smoother and linear sound reproduction at low to high power levels.
Because the diaphragm can vibrate at large and rapid excursion, the chamber
behind the diaphragm is designed to optimize the air flow and reduce backward
standing waves.
PUSHING THE BOUNDARIES OF RING RADIATOR TECHNOLOGIES
Sonner takes this superior technology to the next level by implementing our
proprietary design tweeter acoustics panel.
The shape and dimension of the acoustic panel tweeter opening is designed to
complement time alignment of the cabinet and Sonner’s proprietary Panoramic
Crossover Technology.
The main objective of the design is to control sound dispersion and improve
coherent sound as if the sound comes from a single point source.

Sonner takes advantage the natural sound and warm tonality of coated paper cone
mid woofer and use them on our Legato models.
This medium size driver is selected for its superior ability to produce high
resolution sound and fast transient response.
LEGATO MODEL CUSTOMIZED WOOFER
A perfect piston woofer’s cone made from a light and stiff Aluminum cone is
built to Sonner’s specification for Legato Duo’s bass module.
Sonner maintains a similar size of mid woofer and woofer for a seamless
frequency integration and to optimize the sound dispersion.
Despite the medium size of our speaker drivers, both drivers will produce a big
volume of sound and a powerful bass. This is due to their ability to create a

system combined with light weight Copper Clad Aluminum voice coil wire. A
special design is applied that minimizes air flow noise, speaker frame cavity
resonance and backward sound reflection during this large excursion.

ALLEGRO MID WOOFER
The ultimate driver technology and materials is designed into Sonner’s reference
product Allegro. This driver is customized to Sonner's specification.
The Allegro’s mid woofer cone is made from a Magnesium Aluminum alloy. The
stiffness of this alloy allows a large and rapid pistonic cone movement without
deforming/flexing its shape.
This cone has a high density of 1.9 gram/cm3 which enables vibration
acceleration (stop and go cone movement) to occur in a split second. As a
result, detailed sound and a fast transient can be heard effortlessly.
One unique property of this Magnesium Aluminum alloy is its self-damping sound
characteristic. Warm, coherent, open and detailed sound is the outcome from
using this unique material.

This mid woofer is designed with a large magnet and a long voice coil to support
a large excursion cone movement. To prevent break up during the cone movement
the driver includes a reinforced rubber surround with a radial pattern.
The large cone excursion can also create non linearity issue and air turbulence
behind the cone. A heavy copper ring is mounted in the magnet poles to reduce
any non-linearity and intermodulation distortion.
To minimize cone backward air flow and cavity resonant the speaker frame is
constructed from molded metal with a large opening above and below the spider.
